Barry Hearn wants OS deal made public
Eddiebd from BBC, he just can't leave it....
secret" deal as tenants of the Olympic Stadium should be made public, says former Leyton Orient chairman Barry Hearn.
The cost of transforming the venue into a stadium ready for football has reached £272m.
West Ham will contribute £15m but the rent they will pay - reported to be £2m a year - has not been made public.
"Who is it confidential from? I can't see any reason whatsoever why it should be secret," Hearn told BBC Sport.
Hearn, chairman of Orient for nearly 20 years until selling up in 2014, wanted the club to groundshare the Olympic Stadium with West Ham and lost out in a legal battle to have the bidding process overturned.
"The actual deal West Ham has got is still confidential and our current mayor of London is refusing to reveal details," he said.
"As a taxpayer, I find that quite confusing. When people spend my money, I rather like to know what it's been spent on.
"In the absence of that information we can only speculate that it is a deal so beneficial to West Ham that it becomes questionable in its own right."

Hearn, who is also the chairman of World Snooker and the Professional Darts Corporation, said mistakes were made at the beginning of the stadium planning process.
"They were trying to do something on the cheap and it has backfired at a huge cost to the current taxpayer," he said.

"It will still be an attractive stadium and will do a fabulous job for West Ham. What a postal address to have - the Olympic Stadium. It doesn't get better than that.

"West Ham, with the Olympic Stadium, in my view will become one of the major clubs in Europe within four or five years."

Hang on.

Our rent on the stadium isn't taxpayers money, is it? It's West Ham's money.

Therefore Barry doesn't need to know how much it is.

Therefore Barry can fuck off.

Maybe someone should ask him how much rent he's charging Orient? (Does he still own their stadium?)

do we still have to be scared of the the bloke he sold Orient to?

Re: Barry Hearn wants OS deal made public
Luckily Orient have been doing a good job of getting rid of their own fans rather than relying on us to take them.

It's a commercial arrangement therefore private. I'm sure the owners will publish annual accounts that will show revenues from all sources (football, events, athletics, rugby world cup, naming rights, merchandising and so on). Hearn can then make an educated guess. Just be patient Barry.

Re: Barry Hearn wants OS deal made public
What you have to be aware of is that most of this whingeing by all is nothing to do with what West Ham are getting at all.

Most of it is about Politics and what Tory can blame Labour (Livingstone/Jowell etc) or what Labourite can blame Tory (Johnson/Coe etc)

Way to go, Bazza!

Keep us in the news any way you can so that even those suffering from terminal dementia won't be able to forget the approaching momentous day of our first home game there. Tickets! Tickets! Tickets! Get Your tickets while they're fresh!

Maybe the Davids will invite you along to the opening ceremony along with Livingstone, Coe & Jowell to make the speech at the grand (and probably heavily tax-payer subsidised) opening ceremony.

Re: Barry Hearn wants OS deal made public
Just got this off a LO website:

LBWF owns freehold, LO given 999yr £1pa lease

In 2004 the LBWF allowed a deed of variation for flats to be built on the 4 corners. Revenue from this was £7.4 mil of which £1 mil was paid to LBWF.

West Stand funded by selling four corners, but came in over budget- so consortium headed by Hearn gives club cash to cover it, in exchange for lettable space in west stand

Same consortium buys space behind South and North Stands to pay for North Stand build

In 2009 Hearn tots up amount of money he’s ‘loaned’ the club, and pays himself off £6 mil in exchange for ground lease (providing a surplus of £2 mil to LO).

LO have a 20 year lease on Brisbane Road, free for the first five years then £180,000 pa and reviewed again in years 10 and 15.

They start to pay rent to Hearn this year. basically theyre fucked and Orient wont be in Leyton too much longer by the looks of things.

Thats 2 major "stories" on the BBC site Sport page now about the injustice and unfair nature of West Ham's deal.

Levy controlling the BBC too ? ;-) Wonder why? Not some kind of secret society is there?

Re: Barry Hearn wants OS deal made public
If Bazza agrees to make ALL of his business dealings public then we should do the same re the OS. I think that's fair.
